Help with the choice

Alright, well with Christmas season on us now I want to up my computer so I can play games like Oblivion. My specs are

1 gig of RAM DDR 184 pin
a GeForce 5500 Graphics card
AMD Athlon 64 3000+
and an ABIT NF8-V2 Socket 754 NVIDIA nForce3 250 ATX AMD Motherboard
And more than enough C drive space.

So I am thinking about uping everything my CPU, board, and Vid card if needed but I am hoping I wont have to so I can save a bit of money. Also try to keep it relatively cheap since this wont be my main present. Thanks in advance.

well, it really has to do with how much money you think you are going to get. to tell you the truth, for a simple and effective upgrade, just get at least another 512MB of ram, and then a new video card. If your motherboard has AGP, look at getting around an ATI X850XT, or the nvidia equivalent. If you have PCI Express, look at getting an ATI X1800 or above, or an nvidia 7600 or above.
