Help with the new fangled USB Easy Transfer Cable

I bought the new Belkin Easy USB Transfer Cable. I read the packaging and saw that it was designed for use with Windows Vista. However, after asking a lot of employees for confirmation, they said that it will work on a XP-XP connection. I used it, and I'm not liking it. I have to use the new Easy Transfer Companion. I just want to take one folder and take all the files from it. From there, I will put it into a different folder on my new computer. They're networked, but I bought a USB cable for the 480Mbps speed. I know that other USB link cables will allow you to make a mini-network or just move files between two computers. The question is... should I return it to Best Buy or should I wait for one of you nice people to show me how to do this? An illustrated guide would be nice for me.

The common practice here is to create data dvds to backup various files and updates on some type of regular basis. For files totally less then 700mb a good cd writer and a blank disk also can make life easier. You can also set the drive out of the old case as slave in new one temporarily for direct transfer there. If you have another means available for a small amount use that and return the new Belkin for a refund or hang onto it for an evetual upgrade to Vista? By the way welcome to CF! http://www.computerforum.com/70672-official-welcome-thread.html
