help with thinkpad z61m

OK. I just got a brand new Z61m. It is a cream of the crop. 1.66 dual core, 1gb ram, 100gb hd, 128 graphics, etc... Its very fast. However, I noticed that when I first turn it on it is EXTREMELY slow. Now the first thing everyone will say is MSCONFIG. I know I know. I have removed everything I can except for the Thinkvantage Utilities because they are crucial. They cant possibly slow this beast down that much! Could it be the fingerprint login software? That stuff cant be that big... This is just really confusing me. Any advice would be appreciated.
 
Maybe you shoud scan your computer for spyware and also viruses. And if it shows up as nothing, then it is probably the finger print software might be it but I really doubt it. Give it a try and let us know.
 
Check task manager. Right click on the exploror (bottom of screen not start but the bar) click task mangager and see what your cpu usage % is. Also, if one process is taking a lot of memory.
 
There is definitely no spyware/adware on here. It is weird, the thing flies through processing advanced functions except it takes like 2 seconds for it to return to the desktop from the screen saver. Its just weird.

If it takes about 2 seconds for it to return to the desktop from the screen saver then maybe there is something running in the backround. An example would be a virus scan or something like that. Oh just out if curisity, is this the one with the titanium cover?

Yes it is and no there isnt. My CPU performance is 1% right now. Running stuff in the background is no problem for this beast. I have run virus/adaware/defragmenter/google earth and IMed people all at the same time. In processes, RTVSCAN is the only thing with mem usage over 30,000kb. What is that?
 
I still cant figure out why it is lagging so much. Does anyone have any advice? Nothing is running really in the background.
 
Sounds like the harddrive is slow as shit. That would slow everything down. Sure, it whips through processes. Then it sits there picking it's nose while it waits for the HDD to catch up.

its 5400, my old was 4300 or whatever and didnt have this trouble
