Help with upgrading motherboard and CPU

Hey i just found this forum from searchin around and stuff and it seemed preety help full so i decided to join it and since this is my first thread just introducing myself names dan was always into computers but just started getting heavily into it and im gettin preety good at it been upgrading and tinkering with all the pcs i got at my house and all electronics in general but now im lookin to upgrade my mother board and processor since im runnin on a old stock 1 and its time for a upgrade..

Ive got a emachines t4060 i know its garbage but ive upgraded it alot with
2 512 ddr ram
radeon x1600 pro agp 512mb overclocked core clock-546mhz memory clock 435mhz
350watt power supply which is on its way
250 gig hdd
and a synmaster 930B monitor not alot but im just gettin into computers alot

i wanted to upgrade to a really good motherboard with a fast processor since mine only runs at 2ghz and since im buying a new one no need to overclock it
And i was just wondering what would get me the best motherboard with processor with a budget of 700 dollars

if this computer is for gaming then i would go with the AMD Athlon 3700 (this rips) and you could get an ASUS motherboard. go to Newegg.com and check out the ASUS mobo's (they are great for gaming)
 
yeh that mobo would be perfect but id need a agp slot or can i just add one?, i mite want a higher speed cpu though,
But when i do get it im gunna have to reinstall windows and everything on my hard drive and set it up for that mobo or is it different?
And will that mother board work fine with my ATI graphics card cause i know its got some nvidia logos on it and is supported by that

If you're going to be spending $700 on just the mobo and CPU, you can get an extremely high end system. The Athlon X2 4600+ is only $552 from newegg. If it's for gaming, however, you video card would be a huge bottleneck with a CPU like that. What's the machine for?

And will that mother board work fine with my ATI graphics card cause i know its got some nvidia logos on it and is supported by that

Not sure which motherboard you're talking about, but it's probably the chipset that's nVidia. You'd be fine with an ATi graphics gard, but make sure that the mobo supports AGP, if you want to keep your existing card.

You can run a repair reinstall, which won't cause any data loss.

Given the budget, i'd definitely look for a dual core system.
 
The machine is for gaming and yeh i was reading most reviews about the graphics card and read that the x1600 models are a bit gimped but i got it as a gift preety recently but eventually i want to switch to a crossfire set up with 2 xlt 1900's and a hd monitor with hdtv wonder by ati but thats down the road more. and yeah i was looking at that processor before it seemed like what i was lookin for now just have to find a mobo that has pci-e and agp so i can upgrade when i get the money for it

1st off, some comas would be very welcomed :)

second, you're not gonna have a motherboard that has crossfire and agp slot. So i'd go with one or the other, perferably crossfire or sli seeing you're shelling out 700bucks for cpu and mobo.
 
yeah i was going to return the x1600 pro and get the 300$ back and get the mother board with pci-e and just pay 350 extra for the xlt1900, cause the x1600 is nice but culd be better, and i just didnt know that u culdnt have a agp and pci-e slot on the same mobo
 
1. What currency is that? The X1600Pro isn't worth anything near $300USD
2. You can have AGP and PCI-E on the same mobo, just not the two PCI-E required for crossfire. In general, though, most of the motherboards that support both AGP and PCI-E aren't great for high-end systems.
3. If you're looking for a crossfire capable mobo for the X1900XT, take a look at the ASUS A8R-MVP

If you're gonna play in single-core environment, the 3500 is prolly a more financially wise purchase.

check out the ASUS mobo's (they are great for gaming)

Even tho it doesnt really matter all that much since, for any streneous game, the mobo willp be the last bottleneck

If you really want one with PCIe and AGP! Dont know how well they work

Yes it was 300usd it was on the reciet best buy over priced a bit i can tell lol,
So im going to return that and ordering the 3 items listed there,
Then im either going to get the 1800xt or shuld i just bump up to the 1900 is it worth the extra money?
