I just purchased Laptop, with vista installed on it. Previously i had been using Windows 98SE. What a change! I just had a few questions, that i hhope someone will be able to help me with. I am used to using windows explorer to navigate for everything, but that doesnt seem to bee there. my question is where can i locate my temporary internet files? they used to be a folder in windows cookies, history, temp, and tempory internet files. i cant seem to find them on vista. Aside from clicking the tools menu in IE where on the computer are they exactly?
What other places do i have to delete to erase any internet files?

What are some suggestions of things to delete off the new computer that are just a waste of space?

Need a Welcome to the Computer Forum?! http://www.computerforum.com/70672-official-welcome-thread.html and a reminder to review the http://www.computerforum.com/52038-forum-rules.html of course!

Jumping from ancient 98 to Vista bypassing XP on the way? "yikes! I'm lost!" is just about how anyone would feel. The entire layout can be reverted to the Classic Windows theme starting with a right click on the Start manu and desktop to restore some familiarity there.

Windows Explorer is still found in the Start>Programs>Accesssories section where you can right click there to create a desktop shortcut to drag off onto the desktop to make things a little easier.

For the new folders and of course IE temp folder and even Favorites and links for IE 7 Vista now sees a "users" folder at the root of C. In there since you missed XP you have to look for your user name and open that up to browse through the Local settings folder for the browser history. CCleaner will automatically clean all of your offline content and browser history as well as Evidence Nuker.

you can set it youself

To show you how Vista looks in the Classic Windows view once you shoose the appearance and themes sections in the display properties or in the Control Panel once you find that under settings the screen here says it all.

For the "crap cleaner" as it is necknamed you can download that free at http://www.ccleaner.com/

For some that will be easier if you like all of your user name and password information wiped as well as your browsing history. That will mean not setting the remember option if used where you type in both where ever you want to log into here, email accounts, etc.. A more selective and more thorough tool Evidence Nuker is also free at http://www.evidencenuker.com/eula/
