help with w-lan?

i recently bought the sony ericsson xperia and want to set up a wireless network with my laptop to enable me to surf with my smartphone. my laptop has a built-in wlan modem and runs on vista. i reach the internet via a usb modem (umts).
normally i'm good with computers but i have no experiences of networks. i would greatly appreciate any help!
 
So you want to surf the web on your laptop through your phone? I'm not sure what your plan is however you most likely need to have a tethering plan to allow you to tether your phone with your laptop.
 
Your smartphone has wlan too, right? IF it does, then can you create a network of anysort? IF you can, you should be able to connect like that. Just try to find the network from YOUR computer with the smartphone.
 
i've established an ad hoc connection but i'm unable to share my computer's internet connection with the ad hoc connection even though i've enabled internet connection sharing.
