Help With Windows Vista

When i click start in Windows Vista and start to type something in, i want to click on search everywhere, but when i click this i get an error saying

the file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action, create an association in the set associations control panel

any help on how to fix this thanks

did the error come up when you installed vista/bought the computer, if not, back-up you data and do a system restore and set it to the last time you used it. apart from that i dont know much about program association, i'm sure someone on here will know.
