Hi,
I got this dell laptop XPS M1710 with nothing on the screen, When I turn it on, the lights on and the hard drive is spining with the hard drive light on, after a little while I can turn the wireless adapter on and off with the Fn combine with the F2 switch. then few minutes later I can hear the windows starting sound come in. that mean the cpu and the main board is good? and other parts too? except the video? I can't see anything at all, I try the crt/lcd to use external monitor with no luck.
What is wrong with this laptop? is the video chip dead? if it is dead, can windows xp bootup to the ssytem sound comes and freeze after few minutes? I went to dell site to check, it said in the spec" 1 CG053 Module, Card, Graphics, 256MB M1710, G71" is that mean this video chip is actually a module that can be changed? not solder on the main board?
Can some one please help?
Paul.

just chat with dell tech, They sell the video module for $325.95. that is rediculous. this computer not even worth that when it is working. any one know where I can get a good second hand one may be under $80?
Thank you.
1 CG053 Module, Card, Graphics, 256MB M1710, G71 that is the module.

You should plug it in to a external monitor source that way you know your screen didn't die first. Then I would say your next bet would be if it is the card is ebay. There are a lot of people who take apart the laptop's and sell the parts on there.

try to search on ebay without any luck, dell sell it for 325.95, the laptop isn't worth that much, I try to see if I can get the video card first. if the screen dead I will use as a desk top with a external monitor.
Thank you.
Paul
