Most likely, it's a problem w/ your hard drives. Are they SATA or IDE. If they're IDE, have you set the jumpers correctly?

hi again they are sata

You may need to find the appropriate SATA drivers for your mobo. They're usually on a floppy. Sometimes these drivers need to be installed using the F6 command before the Windows installation. What's the model of your mobo?

i did not get a disc with my computer would it be on the hp site

Yes. Go to your computers support page at the HP website. If you're reinstalling Windows w/ an HP machine, I would recommend doing a factory recovery. You should find instructions on how to do that at the support page.

Just researched. Yup, it's an HDD problem. I'd suggest get out that disk that came with your HDD and diagnose it.

He needs SATA controller drivers.

Sorry. Until now, I didn't realize you were attempting to install XP on an OEM machine intended to run Vista.

You probably will not be able to install XP on your SATA drives. I doubt that HP has XP SATA controller drivers for that mobo. Contact them and tell them your problem. Ask them if it's possible to install XP on that machine.
