i can no longer double click files to play them with media player, it asks me to search the web or select a program from a list. Then i select media player. I recently used a reg cleaner, and i also partitioned my hd and tried to play these files off the new partition. i dragged it onto my primary partition and tried again, same problem. Not sure how this happened. I was installing and uninstalling various software, that could be a reason also?

Right click on the file you want to open
go down to "Open With"
on the sub menu select "Choose Program..." (you may have visited this screen before, when you were told select a program from a list)
then select Windows Media Player and tick the small tick box that says "Always use the selected program to open this type of file"
Then press OK and it should be done
