what cable do i need to get to hook 2 computers together is it a usb bridged networking cable? if so where can i get one

If you are wanting to set up internet connection sharing then you need a crossover ethernet cable.

i want to hook it threw the ubs ports from one computer to the other. to transfer file on one computer to the other

As long as the new one is windows 7 then you need something like this.

right now i have both xp and 7 but i want to be able to go from one computer with xp to other with xp

Doing it via crossover cable is much easier.
