hey guys, i have this case and i want to take out some of the metal on the back where the fans are mounted (the holes are really small, it restricts airflow and makes my fans really loud). Any ideas on how i would take the metal out? The metal is really thin and bendable with a plier.

I'm gonna do this tomorrow so please be brisk in responding.

Thanks.

Well, I would suggest cutting the metal up according to the holes and then sand the edges smooth and maybe put some rubber cord cut up and glue it to the edges?

yeah, do you think the metal would go if i bend if back and worth many times with a plier? and would a handheld jigsaw take cut the metal?

You need a nibbler. I just asked this question at http://audiokarma.org yesterday for ideas on how to do this. The problem is that you'll get little metal shavings all over the place. Disassembling everything is the best way to go so you don't get metal bits on your mobo and blow it to kingdom come by shorting anything out.

get a dremel!
i actually used some pliers to taks some metal out of the back of my case as a fixup. same problem i was getting very restricted airflow... and once i got the metal out it was also very quiet as well.

use a plasma cutter...duh! no, but really, anything that cuts metal would work fine, then just file it down. when youre down, a magnet can pick up the remains and shavings, etc. let us know how it came out!

I actually didn't get to it today, lol. HOw do you guys think i should make the first cut? Cause my plier is too big to fit in the little holes.

You could probably get away with using a decent pair of wire cutters. :)

lol yeah, i think i'll just use a canned duster or something.

No! No! No! The canned air will blow metal shavings all over the place!

The only place a magnet can really do any harm to the innards of a PC is perhaps near the hard drive(s). Other than that you should be fine!

May have to make the first cut with a drill bit large enough to get any tool you need to use in there.
