Okay ive been having trouble with word 2003 it seems to function normally but after i minimize it and try to open it again the top right coner of the window opens but then word just shuts its shelf down.

go to add remove programs in controll panel, find office or word. click remove then click repair

It sounds funny, but when you click remove a separate wizard will appear.

It should have the following:

Uninstall
Repair
Update (i think)
