Email ISP Question

Okay guys please here me out. I'm not a a tekkie by any means when dealing with puter software/security, etc. Is there a way to track the ISP of the sender of an email if the sender was not logged in under their own personal email account? In other words, if person "A" sent an email from their own computer logged in under person "B's" email account, is it feasible that a fairly computer knowledgeable person could trace the email back to person "A's" ISP?

Sounds unlikely, but with Computer Forensics, it might be possible.;)

Since user logged into B, everything is probably traced through account B as far as ip and everything goes. However, your details doesn't seem to be talking about the same thing. Are you trying to trace the ISP or the email accounts?

Let me try to explain a little more clearly. I just found out that my "ex" used spyware on my computer and was able to retrieve many of my passwords including my Yahoo email. I'm 99.9% sure that she ended up forwarding a very personal and quite damaging email to my entire address book which included my employer. I almost lost my job. The problem is, that email was my account, in my name, so it's difficult to deny sending it even though I didn't! So to answer your question, I was hoping to find a somewhat simple way to track the ISP of the sender of that damaging email (which was obviously from my ex). Or maybe it makes more sense if said I want to be able to concretely prove I did not send the email and that someone else did from a completely different ISP than my own without involving something like computer forsensics?

Well, let's see. Did she do it from her computer? From your explanation, it sounds like she used your computer, correct? Or did you mean keylogger and got your stuff. Either way, if it was on your computer and not her owns, the chances are unlikely since you will be provided the same ip address usually if you are on broadband. If it was from her, than you can probably trace it back, but you might have to do that from your e-mail provider as it logs in her ip address at her pc, rather than yours.

I think some of this gets "lost in translation". I am quite certain that she sent that forwarded email from her own computer (either from her house or work). I didn't mention that we did live together until about a month ago, that was about the time she moved out. She used a keylogger on my own computer here at home when she was living here (she was using this computer as her own PC). She ended up recording my keystrokes which was unbeknownst to me until recently (I erroneously referred to this as spyware earlier). So back to the original question. Can I somehow "prove" that the damaging email sent from my own personal Yahoo email account, was in fact sent from HER own computer? I think proof might consist of tracking the source ISP (which I'll assume was her ISP). Like I said I'm obviously not a puter expert, so I might be a little off base, sorry about the confusion.
