Help!

I am running a p4 3.2 HT with an MSI pt880.

400 watt PSU (not the prob)
512mb DDR 3200
Radeon 9800 Pro 128
80gb Maxtor
CD-RW/DVD-ROM - Memorex
Windows 98, Second Ed.

The computer boots and is running at about 56C (CPU) and 38 (SYS) idling. The computer, when I try to install Half Life 2 will either crash and hang, or just restart. This also happens when I try to do anything for that matter. Help?

As stated above, it can idle just fine as well as non-taxing operations such as web browsing etc. It would appear (since it crashed every time I attempted to install Half Life 2) that middle to high stress things seem to make it crash.

The PSU is new and fits all of the power requirements for such a system (I think).
PSU Stats:

430 Watts
3.3v @ 24A
5 @ 40A
12 @ 19A

How would I check for stability?

Check to see if the delivered voltage is the specified voltage by using BIOS/hardware monitors

Ok those are the voltages now... let it run for a bit to see what the voltages are when the system crashes.

Is there a way to read the voltages at crash? Windows usually just reboots. Should I just try to reinstalling Half Life and just watch the meters?

Have the meter do recording and look at the log after it crashes. Alternatively if you're quick you can jump into BIOS right after the crash ... the data wont be as reliable but will give a general idea of the voltages

The meter does not offer a recording function (Runnintg Core Center 3.) Are there any third party applications that will do this as well?

What are your loaded temperatures?

Some MSI boards (e.g. the K7N2) produced incorrect temperature measurements by about +/-10 degrees. Try increasing the speed of your fan on the heatsink or fit a better fan/heatsink combination and see if this solves the problem. Have you checked that all fans are working including the one on your graphics card?
