Helping a friend, cheap AGP card

A friend of mine's trying to get a little more life out of his computer. He's basically looking to spend around $50 and is asking what the best GPU he could get would be. So far it seems to be a HD3650. Any better/cheaper solutions? I figured second would be an x1650 Pro.

Yeh that x1650 Pro is about as good as it gets on that budget.
The other options to go second hand .

Is the x1650 better than the HD3650? It's difficult finding a clear answer, but appears the HD3650 is better.

(sorry, I'd clicked the IMG tag rather than the URL tag for the 3650 link :P)

Hmm... Never been a fan of open boxed stuff, but I'll keep that in mind. And what's he using now... Eh, it's probably just onboard. It's an old Compaq with a socket A Sempron.

I threw some parts together on Newegg and he was pretty pleased with the price so I might post it here. Or if someone wants to see what they can come up with. I was trying to stay around $500-600. No keyboard, mouse, monitor, or optical drive would be needed.

His power supply may not support an upgrade. Those machines ship with very little power, usually less than 250W, especially if it's integrated graphics.

Yeah, I had brought that up when first chatting with him. Being a Compaq, though, the PSU already died :P He's now got a pretty weak 380w 12v-18A.

HDD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136074

ODD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827118030

Total comes to $500 + shipping which should be around $30

You can change the CPU to an Athlon II X2 and if he doesn't need a GPU like that you can change it to a 4670. If you switch the GPU then you can switch the PSU to something like a 400w cooler master. Also you will have to add the OS I'm guessing he will want Vista with the windows 7 upgrade.

Also here is another one for you http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=16132067 just add an OS and GPU and you good to go on that one.

I had an AGP X1650 Pro. Put simply, it performed just under the 7800GT when it was released, and a fair bit over the 7600GT
