I would make sure you actually have PCI-e for the video card. Depending on how old your gateway is, a lot of prebuilt PC's that are a little older, dont have PCI-e, but have AGP.

The X850XT PE is a great card, easily competes with the 7800GT, at a lower price point.

Do you have a SoundBlaster Audigy 2 sound card. The games you have are awesome with this card. I couldn't believe the difference in spatial environments. Able to zero in on enemies purely by sound. Snipers in BF2 for instance.

The 7800GT is significantly better than the X850XT PE, which, TBH, is closer to a 7600GT.

For the price, it's great value, and will play all those games well.

Then why does the X850XT PE beat the 7800GT in all of the calculations done by GPUreview?

Explain this as well, comparing the straight X850XT to the 7800GT:

The x850XT PE does have better specs then the 7800GT. The only reason why the 7800GT outperforms in most games is because it's newer, has SM3, and has newer/more advanced technology.

I agree that the 7800GT/GS is the main competitor with the x850XT PE, not the 7600GT.

Are you implying that fill rate is the only (or even the most important) consideration when comparing video cards?

We all know that Oblivion heavily favours ATI cards, to the extent that an X1800XT can often easily outperform a 7900GTX: http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/oblivion_high-end_performance/page5.asp

Here are some comparisons between an X850XT and a 7600GT:

And a few X850XT vs 7800GT:

http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/202/10

The X850XT PE was originally designed to compete with the 6800Ultra, which provides similar performance to the 7600GT. The 7800GT is considerably better.
