Heres the problem...

I've posted a few threads about my new comp, but instead of making several different ones, here is one containing all of my questions.

First off, im running my PC with a 20-Pin 500Watt +12V@18A PSU in my 24-pin motherboard. It runs but there have been times where it jsut keeps restarting unless i leave it off for a minute. And when i run 3DMark03/05, it crashes after the first test. Im running a Diamond X800GTO 256MB PCI-E card (no power connector on it). Whats the problem? is it the 4 missing pins or the low amps? (its a cheapo one that came with the case, Aspire 520W +12V@36A on the way).

Second, my cpu fan turned off in windows, so i immediatly shut it off thinking that something was wrong. I checked BIOS and it said that it will shut off if my PC is below 20C. Now in BIOS it says that my cpu is running at around 26C, but this is what it shows in windows:

What one of them is telling me the wrong thing? Do you think that there mixed up and that the CPU is at 30C and the system is at 17C? And also, whats the device thats at 127C?

Thirdly, is there a program that tells you your GPU temp? ATI Catalyst Control doesnt have it for some reason. When my comp starts up the GPU fan is spinning really fast and makes alot of noise, but then quiets down a few seconds later.

So lastly, do you think my problems will be fixed once i get and install my Aspire 520W 24-pin +12V@36A PSU?

Thanks for the help!

EDIT: Found out that ATI Tool has the temp.

Yes the low amperage most likely has something to do with the crashes and shutdowns. As for the temperature usually it will shutdown if it's ABOVE a certain temp, not below (never heard any mobo do that). I get lower temps in BIOS than in Windows cause the computer isn't doing anything, you should be roughly the same.

i read from a Asus mobo menual it sed u can plug a 20 pin into a 24 pin only if u PSU has certain requirement, so read ur manual and c what it says about it.

My manual is very vague when it comes to instructions, lol

It only says 1 sentence about the power supply plug, and it says something like this "Use of a 24-pin power supply is strongly recommended".

h ... my one says its ok to use a 20pin one but the PSU msut be 300W and the 20pin must provide at least 15A and 12V
