Now I don't consider myself an idiot when it comes to computers, but I'm eminently aware that many people know more than me. I'd be grateful if you could take a look at this set-up I'm getting from ebay and put a price estimate on it, or maybe suggest any improvements. This is just for the base, no monitor, keyboard or such. Thanks.

64 BIT AMD ATHLON 4200+ DUAL CORE
2GB Fast DDR Ram PC3200
250GB SATA 150
ASUS NVIDIA nForce4 SLI Model : A8N-SLI
7800 GTX 256MB nVidia Geforce

Stylish Midi ATX case

Very nice. Are you using dual 7800's or one?

Just one at the moment. From what I've heard there's really no games out there at the moment that can utilise two properly. Is that accurate?

1. What are you doing with this machine?
2. What are you paying for it total?
3. You don't NEED a 7800GTX, you can save money by downgrading to a 6800GT or a 6800U.
4. You can do the same with the dual core AMD and get an FX series or even an A64 single core like a 3200+ or a 3400+.
5. What brand is the ram (if it's FAST I've honestly never heard of it).
6. Why are you buying it from ebay?

Spot on the single core 3800 would still save some cash over the dual core. But the fx would be a waste of cash :)

The parts that you listed would cost around $1500 to $1600. Is that more or less then you expected?

Sort of, a little bit more. I'm English and in £ it's £1395, including p&p.

1. Pretty much a gaming machine, although I do some multi-tasking.
2. £1395 including p&p.
3.Too late, but price isn't a massive issue and I'm happy to have the best available, even if it costs a bit more.

5. I don't believe it says.
6. Why not? It's actually from Interweb systems,(http://stores.ebay.co.uk/id=99572744&ssPageName=VI:SIB:StoreView) - who also advertise on ebay.

Good point.

A bit more being +~250-300$ You'd have saved the money and gotten the same performance (to the standard user) out of the 6800GT as with the 7800GTX.

This is the exact comp I'm getting. I'm not Mr computer literate and didn't think of makes and models of the specifics - stupid huh? However, the company selling has nearly all good feedback. Either way, I'm pretty sure it's poweful enough for my gaming needs.

Unfortunately the ebay link (as expected) doesnt provide jack all information although we did manage to find out the make/model of the mobo (A8NSLI) but thats it.

You are correct in that the machine will more than handle your needs but i was more concerned weather or not you were getting your money's worth.. the comment caught my eye:
You could easily pay over £3000 for this setup on the high street
... but only if you decide u want to get ripped off :D

Yes but like I said, the comments are virtually all complimentary, both on quality and price. When it arrives (should do within the next week) I'll post the full list up.
