Hi everyone, an I.P question again

Hi guys, I've asked here before about if it's possible to know someone's I.P if you only have his\hers Email address and you've said no.

But, a friend of mine showed me that when you select a message from your inbox on Gmail, and you press on the little triangle that points down, where the "reply" is, then you have a thing there "Show Original". and then amongst other stuff that's there you have "Received: by *something that looks like an i.P adress* with SMTP id *and the i.d*....

So, is this really the I.P of the sender? and does the SMTP can give any information about the p.c that the email was sent from?

thanks very much and sorry if i'm bothering you with this again.

Answered already in your last thread:
Even if they did a reverse look up from the email headers they would only hit your email server and most email servers have taken the basic steps for security.

Think of it this way, I can type any IP number in anywhere
The IP address knowledge is not the end of the world
Everytime you sign up somewhere and create a post, your IP is shown to all the Moderators of the site; its not really that much of a worry

Yeah, I guess you're right, it just bothers me a little to think that anyone can find out my i.p and know if i'm writing to them from Belgium or England or Sweden just from my i.p
but oh well...

thanks again
