Hey everybody,
Ok so ive been running my computer good for two years now and lately it has been screwing up.
My specs (going off memory)
i7920 lga1366
P6-58x Premium mobo
HD radeon 5870 HD
12 gb ram

thats all that could possible matter, anyways heres the problem. When i turn my computer on it doesnt send any signal to the monitor or to the keyboard and mouse. Everything remains off without signal. However sometimes it does work and i can log in and than i get a red or green screen with lines accross it and than i get nothing again when i restart it. I think the motherboard probably went but is there any chance the video card could be causing all this... im asking about the video card because one time i was messing around and there was no signal to the monitor but if i pressed it firmly into its slot on the mobo the video would kick in and out.

thanks in advance computer forum

Yes, sounds like a video card problem. One thing though, what is the make and model of your power supply? Are you sure the video card is seated fully in the pci express socket? You may want to remove and reinsert video card.

The PSU is a 850W Cooler master silent pro, Ya im sure the video card is fully seated i have taken it out and put it in back in lots, tried a second pci express slot aswell.
thanks

Then I would definitely try a different video card. You also could try resetting the cmos.

oh ya i forgot to mention i did try resetting my cmos and the computer did start up asked me if i wanted to Restore setting, install, or something else however the keyboard and mouse werent working so i couldnt select anything and than the monitor again went into sleep mode. Would a bad video card prevent other things from powering up?
I can try an old video card in a couple days( have to get it from my bro)

Bad hardware can cause anything to happen. Would also check the output of the power supply.

Ok ill buy a multimeter tomorrow and begin testing the psu as well, found a guide online. Thanks for all the help John i appreciate it.

just an update. I replaced my video card. Went an bought the Zotac Geforce GTX Ti 2gb for $180CAN taxes in from future shop and my computer is now working.
As for a review on the video card. hasnt been tested for performance yet.
Thanks again
