I have been reading about MacBooks, and aparently a lot of mac owners dont bother turning there macbooks off, but just putting them in sleep mode. This keeps the battry and means that they can load it up again in no time.

Is this similer with a normal windows notebook? Do you ever use sleep or hibernation and when?

i own an acer notebook, and i always just put down the screen when i'm done using it and it will automatically go to 'sleep' mode..

it's really convenient because whenever i want to use it again, i just flip up the screen again, and it will come on at the login screen...

im old skool and just turn it off! try and save some energy! but yeah same with my asus! put the lid down and put it back up! im always plugged into the mains so i dont really worry about my battery :)

what is the diffrence between hibernate and sleep?

sleep means pretty much what it implies: the computer shutsdown, but power still goes to the RAM and other components so when it wakes up, it boots really fast, and all open programs are where you left them. in hibernation, the computer uses no power at all, but puts information on the hard drive so that when you boot back up, it loads the programs that were left running, but boot takes longer.
thats the basics, correct me if im wrong...
