Hidden system files - Locked

Hi.

In my D:\ drive there is a hidden system folder called: found.000

There are several important files on there that I need taking out, but they are in use so I can't do anything with them. Even on safe mode.

I really don't want to go installing linux just to get the files back into their original directory.

Has anyone else encountered this problem? If so, how did you get the files back?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks.

Try putting the HDD into a second computer and boot off the other drive. Then get the files.

Thanks for your advice, but if it comes to that I'll just boot linux. I would not say the files are *that* important lol

I mean, why would the files have been put there anyway?

I assume the hard drive encountered an error somewhere during a disk defrag, and it stuck it in the old compressed files directory.

Through disk cleanup I can get rid of them, but I don't want to, that's the problem.

Thing is if Disk Cleanup has the ability to delete the file, then I'm hoping there might be a service in the administrative tools I can disable, the one that's locking the files.
