High CPU temps

So I've had my computer for a few years now and never really paid much attention to the CPU temp. Currently my idle temp is anywhere from 40-50c, watching a stream on twitch gets up to about 70c and I often hit 95c while watching youtube videos. When I first built the pc I tried installing a cooler master v6 and couldn't make it fit, so I just returned it and decided to use the stock fan until I found something new. Well nearly 3 years later I am still using that stock fan and need something new.

CPU
Intel Core i5 2500K @ 3.30GHz

Motherboard
Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. Z68XP-UD4 (Socket 1155)
Graphics
VW246 (1920x1080@60Hz)
1279MB GeForce GTX 570 (EVGA)
Hard Drives
932GB SAMSUNG HD103SJ ATA Device (SATA)
56GB OCZ-AGILITY2 ATA Device (SSD)

NZXT Phantom

I just recently cleaned the inside of my computer and will be doing so again tomorrow. If anybody has any suggestions on fans/heatsinks or any other tips I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Youtube it, super easy. Though, if you ask 3 different people how to do it, you'll get 5 different answers;)

Clean residue thoroughly with either rubbing or denatured alcohol and a lint-free cloth (coffee filters work excellent). Apply a small (slightly less than a pea-sized amount) dab of thermal compound. Place the HSF on top taking care not to move it excessively (or, ideally, at all) while you lock it into place.

Might help you, might not. Could possibly save you from buying a bigger HSF though.

You shouldn't need any special cooling for your needs, the 2500K doesn't get that hot. You have simply not applied the thermal paste properly, or not seated the cooler properly. Don't run the 2500K at 95oC you'll kill it.

Thank you everybody for your suggestions. I'm going to buy some thermal paste and try that before I do anything more drastic. Is Arctic Silver still the go to thermal paste or have times changed?

AS5 will be fine. There are others out there that are the new "flavors of the moment", but AS5 kept stuff cool years ago, and it keeps it cool now.

After a mix up with shipping, I finally got the thermal paste in today and applied it. I had a bunch of issues with the stock heat sink and I know i could have done a better job with the paste but temperatures are down about 25 degrees.

Also, after the issues I had with the heat sink I think I definitely want to go about replacing that. Instead of getting a full heat sink/fan that I've had problems in the past with installation, would a new CPU fan similar to the stock fan be an OK solution? If so, what would be a good one?

The Coolermaster Hyper TX3 is a good budget, easy-to-mount and quiet cooler.
The Hyper 212 Evo is better - but bigger. Stock designs aren't typically good at cooling, unless you invest in something from the likes of Noctua, but they are pricier than the Coolermaster ones I wrote.
