high ping

in the last week my ping on counterstrike source has risen from around 40 to 200 is there anything that might have cause this and is there something i can do to get it back down again (css is the only on line game i play )
 
thers all the same cause they go through a router anyways thats not the problem cause it was running for about a month on the netwotk befor the ping changed
 
it could be the problem, as one of the other computers may be using internet resources...
and do you always play on the same server? there could be an issue there...
 
Maybe your ISP is having some difficulties. You can just wait or call your ISP for technical asistance.
 
My guess would be that other people on the networking are downloading files, or uploading files. Perhaps the reason it just started was because Windows update had to download some pretty large files for it's automatic updates?
 
its not the network cause ive tried when all the the other pcs are off
but then i guess it could be virgin messing about after they took over telly west
i just thought it may have something to do with stuff running in the background that i don't know about : i will give virgin a ring tomorrow see whats going on at there end
but we should be getting sky soon any ways :D :D
 
Downloading and uploading files is certainly an issue....especially if they're downloading torrents.

But if you play on a server that is on another continent, your ping increases by up to 100.
 
My Ping is always getting me kicked on BF2..........Somebody can be on the other PC and using the internet, and then when they quit my ping jumps.....is there a program to keep this stable?

hah, it would be virgin media... ever since NTL and telewest merged the company seems to be getting worse and worse...
oh and just to let you know... sky broadband isnt great, i have 8meg and the only thing thats better than my old NTL 1meg is the download/upload speed, as sky use something that can double your ping in games =/.

and if youre trying to use your internet at peak times, that could also be causeing a problem, as other people will be using theirs too and as you know, internet companies like to share internet connections between houses :D
