High Res hurting my eyes

Ok, my normal res is 1024x768, but I like it higher so that i have more room. The problem is that it is hurting my eyes (first night using it). Will they adjust? Or should I go back to normal?

Are you too close to the screen? That has a major factor in your issue.
You should be about a 1 1/2 feet from your monitor. Any closer will potentially ruin your eyes..
But looking at any monitor for a long period of time isn't the BEST thing for your eyes..
You should do whatever you feel comfortable with. I would suggest moving back to see if that helps any.

what kind of monitor is it? what size is it? if it's native resolution is 1024x768, than it's going to look terrible any higher.

The reason its hurting your eyes is because its new and you are staring. When it was just that old thing you didnt stare.

I think the issue that is being missed here, is that the font is too small to read, therefore causing strain on the eyes, producing discomfort.

If you can't see the monitor comfortably when you're sitting in your normal position, you need to lower the resolution so you can read everything without
straining.

If you want more room, get another monitor.

The monitor is probably too small, get a bigger monitor. Plus, if it's an LCD monitor, running it out of its native resolution will make it look bad.

It's an old Sony. It's not LCD. I don't know much about it, since its an old handed down piece of shi*. Native resolution is 1024x768. The 1280x1024 doesn't look too bad though, which is what I am using right now.

CRT monitors can cope better with resolutions other than their native one. If the screen size is only 15" then get a new monitor with a native res. of 1280x1024
problem solved :D
