High speed optimization

Recently got high speed through Comcast (yuck) And i did the speedtest via utorrent, Around 4000kb down, 384 up. Problem is when downloading i usually get only 500kbps down and uploading maybe 150... Being new to this I have no idea on what I can do to speed this up (or even if i can).

Anybody have any tips to make my connection faster? Thanks!

Try some broadband tweaks tools available online.I would sugest TCPOptimizer, it has been know to do wonders to some people.

use download managers, and btw 150 kb/s upload isn't bad i would kill for having that ( i've miserable 70 kb/s )

i would kill for 500kbps, my country i get only 30 max..with some spikes i get around 40 but thats it...and you're complaining 500 is not enuff ?

i think my speed is normally 30kbps on downloadings and it peaked at 50, but when im doing like bit torrent it goes to 100

I didn't realize anyone responded to this post so thanks to everyone who responded! :D I found out that the speed is rated in kilobits not bytes (Durr) so my speed is spot on. To those who posted references double thanks, and patrickv; I know, I'm ashamed! I was on dialup (5 kbps down) for so long the super boost made me speed-hungry..

well, you may still have a problem here, because your supposed to be able to download at four mega-bytes-per-second, and your only downloading at about a quarter of that... i have the same thing, but mine is the 6mbps, and no-one else in my area has it, so its pretty much all dedicated to me, but i still never get above a meg a second

It's because they trick you into thinking you're actually getting megabytes by using mbps, which actually stands for megabits. (MBps would mean megabytes, note the capitalization) 6 megabits would equate to 6000 kilobits which means you should be getting around 850 kilobytes down.

Comcast is an A-hole of a company, they've practically got our neighborhood as a monopoly. Unreliable speeds and the such. They even shut us off twice (!) and sent us to a fraud investigator, all because they supposedly had our SSN wrong. Bastards.

Excuse my language...

If you use FireFox, there's an add-on called FasterFox. Download that and see if it helps, if it doesn't I know a few more tweaks.

I've had fasterfox since my dialup days lol. So i have no idea what it's been to my broadband, but thanks for the suggestion! :)
