High Temps

I have an Opteron 165 and its idle at 35C and load 50C with a Zalman CNPS9500LED and Arctic Silver 5. I don't know why it goes so high. I've cleaned the processor and heatsink with alchohol and reapplied AC5 3 times. I followed exactly what it said to do on the site and I seem to have high temps still. Is this normal?

Even though the fan is spinning it may not be spinning at full RPM. I dont know what the max temp is supposed to be for an Opeteron.

Thanks for the response.
Now I get around 37 idle and 50 load when overclocked to 2.4ghz on stock volts. I heard the Zalman I have should be more than enough to cool it better. Should I try reapplying AC5 except this time, spreading it all over the surface?

I have a similar setup to you, with the CNPS9500LED, Arctic Silver 5 and an Opteron 144 overclocked to 2.42Ghz. My load temperature is 51 degrees, so I shouldn't worry too much.

Spreading AS5 over the surface before applying the cooler will make little difference, and may increase the chances of air pockets. The best way to apply is as Arctic Silver recommends, putting a dollop in the center and letting pressure spread it for you.

My load temp is with the fan speed on minimum, so wasisnt may be onto something there as well.
