Windows does get corrupted over time, it sounds like its time to do a fresh install. How long have you been using it? It could possibly be a recent program you installed or bad driver. Make sure you are deleting your temporary internet files. Run Ccleaner to clean out old files not needed. Is it time for a defrag?
 
Uninstall Ad-Aware as well

Then ownload and run CCleaner: http://www.ccleaner.com/download/downloading
Run the cleaner and remove all temp files
Then click on the Registry button (still in CCleaner) and run "Scan for issues". Then repair all issues found (backup not necessary)
You will need to do this registry clean about 3 times to fix them all

Then restart, and report on how its all going

Still a little bit to go ;)

Run IE Reset, there's a MS Video HERE to do that if it helps (basically we are up to IE8, for some time now ;))

Then download Combofix HERE (Note: there are (not required by you) instructions HERE on how to use)
  • Download Combofix
  • Close Internet Explorer and Email and anything else open
  • Right click on Avira tray icon and select disable (or close) Note this is temporary, until next restart
  • Run (Double Click) on the downloaded Combofix program
  • Answer the questions "I accept" etc along the way
  • Disregard Avira Warnings
  • Note: You can install the Recovery Console - I did (but doesn't matter either way)
  • Continue the scan, without touching the mouse or running any other program
  • At the end of the scan (Note your computer may restart) A log will be displayed. Save this notepad log to a new reply ;)

Click on Start > Run > Combofix /U to uninstall Combofix (it will look like its starting again)

Go to Windows Updates and complete all Windows Security Updates
You may need to restart a couple of times

Clear out your System Restore points
Start > Control Panel > System and Maintenance > System > System Protection
Remove any ticks in the boxes and then select > Apply
Wait until the Restore Points have all been removed, then re-tick the drive (Usually "C" ) again, then click > Apply, again

Run CCleaner once more
Restart again
Reply back :) (with that Combofix log and how its now running)

This is a large update, but worth it, if you follow what I have stated above, you will then have it
But I just wanted to confirm that you do this large update as well
The entire process above will take some time, and we havent even done Java and Flash Player updates yet :D
