HijackThis log - PC has major problems

This computer is running seriously slow, taking a good 10 minutes or so just to boot up or shut down. But I've been scanning it all day with many anti-virus and spyware programs, especially the ones recommended on this website. The desktop background is not the usual wallpaper it is a warning saying "This computer is infected with spyware and your IP address is..." and so on. The scanning has helped and many viruses have been removed (I assume anyway) and the computer is running at a half-decent but by no means standard pace. The background warning is still there and I doubt all the threats are gone so I'ev turned to HijackThis. I don't have a clue how to decipher the log or anything and I'm hoping you guys can help me out. Here it is:

There's the Smit one, just waiting for Kapersky to scan.

Bit of a hiccup with Kapersky, it won't scan because I don't have administrive rights on the computer. How can this be changed? Also along with that ActiveX won't install properly, it says it can't locate a certain file on my computer and therefore won't install. I apologise for all the inconveniences and I really do appreciate your help and patience, thank you.

*Sigh* When I press F8 at the start of the boot, it doesn't work. When I press F1 and F10 for settings and what not, it doesn't work either, so I can't gain administrive rights. Is there another way round this problem? Or the whole problem in general?

Sorry it has taken so long to reply by the way.

No problem for the time.. :D

Did you tried Kapersky with IE7? I forgot to tell you needed to use IE for Kapersky...

Do you have any popups telling you you need to buy/get a new anti-virus anti-spyware?

Last edited:
I tried Kapersky with IE yes, and it didn't work. And I did keep getting pop-ups saying I need to buy anti-spyware things, and kept getting alerts in the taskbar saying "Scan now, you're infected" and stuff like that. But I've been scanning with RegCure and a load of anti-virus programs and the pop-ups and alerts have gone away

Ok, what you're going to do first is this:

Open Hijackthis, do a Scan only.
Put a checkmark on these items:

Then click Fix Checked

Then shut down your computer, turn it on in Safe mode ( press f2 before the Windows loading screen).
go to SmitFraudFix, this time type 2 in the prompt.
Restart your computer in normal mode.

In your next post, please post a fresh Hijackthis log and a new log from SmitFraudFix ( press 1 in the prompt for logs).

It won't let me start it up in safe mode, I did the scan, put a checkmark on them and when I press F2 it just doesn't do anything, on that ask-leo website it says to press F8 and that doesn't work either. So should I just continue as normal and do the SmitFruadFix thing?

what have you been doing to get all of these infections? just an afterthought but maybe consider getting rid of any P2P software and getting some new security software etc

To answer you question bluedishwater, I used RegCure which I think helped the most and then just used some of the anti-virus and anti-spyware programs that is recommended on this website in the sticky thread.

Webbenji, do you mind if I help out here?

Get shut of those rootkits first and foremost.

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
  • Choose your usual account.
  • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
  • It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
  • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
  • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt

After SDFix, please download the NEW ComboFix from either of these links:

http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/sUBs/ComboFix.exe
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe

Double click Combofix.exe & follow the prompts.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply

Note:
Do not mouseclick Combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.

Please post the SDFix and ComboFix logs in your next reply. If they don't fit in one post, please post each in seperate replies.

No problem John McKenna, I was going to ask for help anyway on those rootkits.
