Hi
well I got my new mobo
and now my computer accually works..

So I poped in my windows xp cd and I THOUGHT
I was factory restoring It
but now when I turned on my computer it felt like everything was gone,
u know a windows xp wallpaper and a recycle bin and that it on your desktop
but then I looked in my computer and I only had 34 g left on my 300
so i was like..wtf lol

but yea can some one tell me what might have went wrong..
because I remember putting the win xp cd in and NOT choosing the upgrade
I chose the one that said (warning this will get rid of all your installed software bla bla bla)

so yea..

I really need to restore my comp so any help is apprecated

thanks..

Mmm, it sounds like you installed the 266 GB version of xp. Ouch! Just kidding. So, how many partitions did you have on your drive before reinstalling? What partition did you choose to install to? How many partitions do you have now?

Go to:
Control panel // administrative tools // computer management
and under the "storage" section, select the "disk management option".
Do you see any areas of the disk marked as "unpartitioned space"? Do you have a partition management program like "partition magic"?

These are all just thoughts running through my head. Maybe someone who has experienced the same thing knows what exactly went wrong.

well when It told me to choose a partion I chose my h.d.d
I only had that on there along with "new partion" or something like that
wich took up 8g.b

and when i do what you told me I only see
" (C:) drive
so theres only that on there..

but yea this is really pissin me off I think im gonna try the win xp cd again..

SWEET NEW PROBLEM!!!!

well isnt this just wonderfull..
I tried to restore my computer again using win xp home cd,

so I put the cd in the drive...
restart my comp...
wait untill It says "booting from disk"
so It tells me "click any button to boot from disk"
So I click every single thing on my key board and nothing...

idk what this might be because Usually it lets me click any key but now its not letting me do that (ever since I got the new mobo)

and the cmos start order is set to Floppy,H.d.d,cd-drive

if you need any more info plz ask I really wanna restore my comp already..

oh btw...Is there any way that I can do it without having to restart the comp and "click any key to continue"....

DAMN U MICROSOFT!!!!!!!!

..well thanks guys...

Don't know if this will help much. Are you able to just restart windows without any cd, so that you can get to the bios and change the boot order to CD first and then whatever? It probably won't matter, but I don't know if it is getting hung up somewhere between HDD and CD boot. Just something to try for the heck of it in case it works.

Also, if you ARE able to boot up to windows right now, how much TOTAL space does it say your C drive has? A program like partition magic might be able to help "find" that unallocated space. I don't know if they have a trial version that could show you more info than what the disk management utility shows you so far.

I will check back later, but in a few hours I need to head out to the airport - I'll be gone for a week. I'm sure someone here in the forum can give you more info that I have so far.

well I tried changing the boot order a few times..
and btw IM on the computer now...
the only problem is I want to favtory restore it
but it wont let me..."how?" u ask
ok when I put the cd in and click install win xp
it works fine but then when it says "restarting computer"
after it restarts it wont let me choose win xp home
it automatically clicks on win xp setup
i dont know why but the keyboard wont read my command lol
BUT
when the screen that says "AMD" shows up
and it says click TAB for post screen or DEL for bois
it works..like I can get into bios screen n mess around with it
but its only on that most important part, that the keyboard doesnt work..
maybe its a internal problem or something because the batteries on the keyboard are fine...
anywho
I would really like to restore this comp and start using it properlly

oh BTW I just got done trying to restore it
well I did but it did the windows xp setup instead of home
and when It said choose portion I chose to override my h.d.d
and It said something about multiple win xp's on one hdd
but yea...

anyways the moral to this is that im pissed and any help is greatly appreciated.

thanks again..

oh P.S the tottal size of my h.d.d is 279GB
but its a 300 G.b hd so im taking it win xp is still only installed on here once
because its like 20 g for each copy of xp

so yea...
