shuttle mv43v motherboard
2.8 ghz celeron d processor
512 mb ram
40 gig hard drive
40x cdrw
antec aria case

I recently tried to install this setup and noticed that when I power the system, the keyboard lights flash, the fans work, though there is no power going to the cdrw or the hard drive. There are not any beeps nor does anything show up on the monitor. I see that the motherboard is getting power to the keyboard and the processor fan but it seems to not be doing anything else. I believe that I have chosen the right components for this motherboard. Could it be that I have not connected a floppy drive? The motherboard manual talks about using a floppy drive to partition the hard drive, though I've done this before using a cd drive. Any advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank You , Paul

maybe it's a problem wid the PSU...if u say that no power is going to the cd or hard drives then it can be that your PSU is defective

are you sure you actually plugged them in to the PSU, stupid question but if its first build ya never know....?

It sounds like it's a mobo problem if you get nothing on the screen AND the drives don't do anything. Yes, be sure they are plugged in, but last time one of my comps died, the drives wouldn't spin up/eject, along with nothing on the screen...

Make sure the motherboard isn't grounded to the case. Remove cards and make sure you aren't getting conflicts. Basically try to tear it apart and see what happens with as few parts in it as you can...

1. Check that the ATX12 is connected
2. Also check that the HDD/CD drives hav power (yes i know its basic but sometimes people forget) ... now if that works, try another power connector :)

?

Could it be that the drivers need to be installed first before the motherboard can recognize the drives? Though I connected the cd drive and hard drive to an old HP 200 mhz computer and noticed that power was going to both drives and I could even open the cd drive! This is not possible with this shuttle motherboard so far.. There seems to be no juice going to the drives and the monitor screen. Power is going to the fans and the keyboard. Could it be that there needs to be a floppy drive connected to load some system files first before I can get the motherboard to work? I wish this motherboard would work...

When you build a computer, you don't need to install any drivers for it to start up. It sounds like a PSU problem, perhaps there is power, but not enough? That type of PSU do you have? Check to make sure it's got enough power for your components. If it isn't the PSU there's something else you can do. Try a different mobo if you have. Try different configurations of the main hardware components, see if it's any of those. You may have a short circuit somewhere. I had a switch hooked up to my machine, and it did the same thing your having problems with. The machine wouldn't start up. At first I didn't realize what it was, but after unplugging things one at a time, I found out it was a short circuit. What else do you have plugged in? Router? Hub/Switch? etc. If so, unplug those and try it out. Just mess around. That's half the fun of building your own machine, troubleshooting and getting things to work!

sounds like a PSU problem. what psu do you have? put in a new one if you have one from an older computer handy just to try it.
