Home network and dial-up

I have a desktop with XP on dial up and I have a laptop with Vista that I want to connect so I can share files and a printer. I don't need to have web access for the laptop, so can I use a router to accomplish this? Or is there some other way?

if you want wireless then yes you can use a router. or if no wireless. just get a crossover cable and connect the laptop to the computer together. just make sure that they are under they same workgroup name

and be sure to share (by right clicking and pressing share) on any of the folder or printers you actually want to be shared.
