Home network (file sharing) b/w Mac + PC

Here is my situation: My everyday use computer is my Macbook Pro (OS X). I have a desktop computer running Windows XP that is hooked up to my TV in the family room. My Mac laptop connects to the internet wirelessly, and I have the PC hooked directly into the router. I wanna set up a file sharing home network so that I can transfer files/music/movies between the two computers. I have been trying to follow a few online guides but it doesn't seem to be working.

Can anyone either help or provide a good explanation of how to do this?

Thanks so much!

Not much of a mac "Genius", but...

First step share a folder on windows xp machine

Connect to the "server" (xp machine) on your Mac.

On your Mac, from Finder's Go menu, choose "Connect to Server." Enter the name of your PC, preceded by smb://, for example smb://WindowsXPPC

If you have a password on your machine, you'll get prompted to enter your network credentials - enter your Windows username and password:

you should now have the option of what shared folder to mount
