Home Network - XP and Vista

Hi guys

I have a home PC running XP Pro and a new laptop running Vista Home Premium. I have just bought and connected a wireless router with my ISP (TalkTalk)

I have the PC connected via Ethernet cable and the laptop by Wireless. Accessing the internet is no problem for both computers; however, I'd like to know the best way to set up the LAN so that I can easily file share between the two computers?

All my personal stuff is on the desktop PC (which I can see in the Networking and Filesharing folder of Vista) but I can't view anything on it.

Is there a simple way to set this network up? Your help would be appreciated

Thanks

Okay, I have a setup just like yours: XP desktop connected by wire to the wireless router, Vista laptop run wirelessly.

If on the Vista machine's Networking and Filesharing you can see the Desktop machine, then doublecheck to make sure the folders you want to share on the desktop machine are set to be shared. (I'm assuming you didn't do this already).

Right click any Desktop machine XP folder you want to share, then click Properties. Click the Sharing tab. Click the box marked "Share this folder on the network" and whether or not you want to let the laptop user change those files, then click Apply then OK.

The only folder that is easily shared on a Vista machine is the one called "Public". I have not been able to share any other folders on my Vista laptop successfully, so I gave up.

I had a set up similar, i managed to share the public folder. once i did this, i would go on my XP desktop and copy what i needed into that folder through the network.
