Home Network ?

We just moved into a new home and I need help w/the network.

The house is 3 levels and only one phone jack on each level.
We have the answering machine hooked up on the main and that leaves the home network now connected on the lower level which causes a weak/useless signal to the top level.

My ? is can I use 2 routers on the same network?
Is there some kind of router boost?

What would be the best way to get a strong signal on each level?

Thank you,

Steve

Phone jacks won't help you. You will either have to buy a wireless repeater/extender and put it on the second floor and hope that it gives the third floor better signal or buy 2 wireless routers and put one on each floor and you will have to manually set them up.

Is there any way you can run ethernet cords between the floors to connect the routers?

I'd prefer to do it the easy way and use a repeater or router with a stronger? signal.

Keep it coming please,

Steve

What router are you using now?

Its a Cisco Linksys.

I just ordered a signal repeater from amazon and am waiting for it to arrive.

The modem/router is on the lower level near the desktop.
I have laptops on the main level and another desktop on the upper level.
Where should I place the signal repeater?

Thanks,

Steve

On the second level so both the level above and the level below should get the same signal. What is the exact model of router you have though?

Upgrade to a router with a nice strong signal such as this one:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833320062

Or even this one:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833320091

I'm running the first one and don't have any signal issues throughout my house. The router is located on the 2nd floor and I get a perfectly good signal all the way downstairs in the basement.

Use one of these in place of the repeater or in addition to?

Thanks,

Steve
