Got a bit of a problem. My computer's been running slow so I 'upgraded' my version of Windows XP (reinstalled installation disk). Things appeared to be fine - I thought. Computer was a little faster for a day or two, then started slowing down again. Turned it off, hubby saw a screen saying it said something like 'protected mode' or something. I didn't see it. I'm running IE 6.0. The problem is if I shut it down when I go to restart it and open IE, my homepage opens up and does fine. Slowly, but okay. If I try to type another address in the bar, it automatically goes back to homepage and another "Microsoft Internet Explorer" page opens up and freezes instantly. Same for google bar. I tried going back to a restore point and it seems to work fine then, but if I shut it down and turn it on it doesn't go anywhere. Other than sticking the dang thing in the yard for target practice, I don't know where else to go with it. Any help???? Pleeeeassssseeee????

Did you formatted the hard drive when you downgraded (in fact upgraded) to xp?
If not that could slow down your computer.
Get Tune Up utilities, it is a collection of very good applications built to make your computer faster. You can defrag your hdd, eliminate unnecessary files (like temporary or system restore points which use lot of disk space), correct registry errors, defrag the registry and much more. If you don't have $$money you can get the trial version, because it allows you to do same things like the full version, but limited period of 30 days.
Install the latest version of firefox, it's a much better browser than internet explorer. You can get it from mozilla.com
