Honest Opinions

I'm looking at upgrading to the Q9550 when it comes out. I know my board will support it but the thing is I'm about fed up with SLI. I would like some honest opinions on boards and SLI? What would you recommend ?

680i LT or something of that sort....

Im thinking about SLI. I too have heard mixed reviews on it. But Newegg accidently sent me 2 video cards (Lucky Me) of the same type shown in my signature. I have a mATX motherboard that has 1 PCI-E X16 slot. So I would have to get a new case, motherboard, and cooling because my card runs hot when overclocked... It's pricey, but I met a guy at a flea market selling computers and He told me it really did pay out.
I guess im really going to have to experiment my self, I think it is the video cards that you SLI, not SLI it self. You can expect to get ripping performance with a 7200GS. But you can expect wonders with 8800GTS. I guess it really comes down to parts.
In the future im going to try SLI.

One thing that concerns me is that the cost of two decent cards is going to equal one high end card and your going to have to put up with more heat . So that's the point I'm at now. That's why asking for opinions to help me make up my mind.

depends. doing 8600 gts sli was stupid. usually you sli mid-high end cards which beat out the top end cards for price/performance. thats the only reason to go sli IMO.

8800gt sli will kill 8800gtx. for the same price.

some games dont suppourt it and when they do, it only scales like 40-60% so depends.

I personally don't think I was stupid , because at the time I bought the cards I didn't know alot about SLI and was more or less learning.

I think SLI is only good for 2 mig-range cards that beat the higher priced card

Has any one seen the new Tri-SLI???

Unless you just dont like your board why would you change it, a SLI board will run one card just like any other board. As far as SLI, I just run SLI because I have a bunch of cards layin around. SLI does best with mid to upper range cards. If you have the money get 2 8800 GT/GTS or GTXs and it will do just fine, but its better to get one mid to upper range card than run 2 lower end cards in SLI unless you already have a card and want to go as cheap as posible to get alittle more video power.

Well I didn't know if I would gain any performance using the P35 or X38 chipset? Since I know that my board will support the Q9950, and the DDR3 memory is so costly at the moment, I think I'll just get the quad when it comes out and take your advice and get 2
8800Gt cards. Thanks Stranglehold for the reply.
