Hookup from Computer to TV?

I have a new TV, and to watch a movie on it on my computer I hooked it up using the VGA port on my laptop and the VGA port on the TV. But it still says no input on the TV. Do I have to set up my computer to use the TV as a moniter or what?

I'm running Windows XP on a HP Pavilion dv8000.
 
Sometimes you have to change your Display settings on your laptop for it to be compatible with your TV i had to do the same with my computer doesent take to long should work :)
 
It's like using an external monitor - you need to press the fn+CRT button.

Also, the TV has to be set to the VGA input.

yes really lol

I run my laptop on my HDTV and now I run this computer on my HD. very easy. Hook everything up an like said before make sure it's on VGA or on mine it's like RGB. You can rename it if you want.
