ok guys, so im getting a load of old pc parts tomorrow,

(when i say old i mean old, 2 p'3 and a p4)

a few mobos, various ram, some cases, psu's, cpu's

im just doing the build for the heck of it

so that i can ease myself in to building

so basically what do i definately need to know when building, iv read the building 101 but does anything differ with old mobo's and could someone show me what an agp slot looks like as i would like to know if i could try my GPU in the new machine as it looks like (from what my friend has told me) that the p4 is going to be faster than my athlon 2000+ (i have an old machine as well lol)

any help is great thanks

(by the way i dont know any of the model numbers of the parts as he is as useless as me and has just built up his collection in the hope of building but hes never got round to it)

just take your time check and recheck

make sure all your risers are in the correct place, if you dont have any anti-static kit use the inside of the case to destatic yourself, and make sure your just put a thin layer of thermal grease on the processor

how would i use the inside of the case to anti static myself?

generally, does everything go in one place? or can i end up putting something in the wrong place ?

as i said before, i have already read it but thanks for the recommendation

i was wondering if anything differs with older mobos
what an agp slot looks like
and how to ant static myself wit hthe inside of the computer.

iirc none of that was in the building 101 as its a newer computer being being with a pci-e slot for the gpu, a newer mobo and i think the TS used an anti static wrist strap (i could be wrong though)

overlooked that >_<

lol no worries, dont suppoe you know how i got about ant staticing myself with the inside of the case?

I beleive with the parts out of the case and while no linger standing on carpet you just kinda touch it haha, that simple. could be wrong but im almost possitive thats it ;)

Also you can buy cheap anti-static wristbands to help out also

ahh ok, so i got the bits anyway and all the mobo actually needed was a motherboard.

got it up and running but it wont boot from anything, do i need a new hardrive? :s

i went into boot from, and tried to oboot from the hardrive but its having none of it

i am totally new to this :S

You need an operating system by the sounds of it. If there's nothing on the hard drive, how can you boot into windows? :P
