Hopefully you're at a Athlon 64 and ditched the XP........

This post is ment for the some who want to upgrade thier XP to "another better XP". Or just want to upgrade to an Athlon XP. Well, think again...because im going to post some real-world results. I mentioned at my last post that I have published proof that there is a CATASTROPHIC difference between XP's and 64 when it comes to gaming.

Here is my system that attibuted to the 3dMark2001SE scores:

30 GB ATA133, 2MB Buffer, 7200 RPM Seagate
WinXP
AthlonXP 1800 +
512MB PC333 Ram
Asus A7V333 Motherboard
Radeon 9700PRO Standard Clock

3DMark 2001 Score : 11555 (Very standard score according to the norm)

Now, only these changes occoured:

Asus K8N
512MB PC400 Ram
Athlon 64 3000

17582

It's time to move up.........No more XP's. This simple CPU upgrade is better than a Video card upgrade in some cases....impressive stuff I think.

wow, seems you upgraded the mobo and the memory as well in that test. Meaning that the jump in score can't be attributed to just the CPU change. It's true that the CPU change will make a difference in the score, but so will the quality of the memory and which mobo is used.

not to mention the CPUs compared are so uncomparable it isn't funny. Now I understand you probably ran this test with what you have on hand, but usually you would test this by using the same rated CPU, sticks of RAM, video card and harddrive. Most of this you've got, but the new RAM and considerably faster CPU makes this test virtually meaningless

1. If you want to talk official stuff, AthlonXP has been discontinued for quite some time now
2. If you want to talk real-world stuff -- not everyone can afford a shiny new Athlon64 system

Glad someone noted that.

Throw in radically different chipsets, on-die (and lack thereof) memory controllers and it kinda cements it in

Yse but that's gotta happen when you compare Ath Xp to 64, at least if you keep everything else constant you have a decent platform of comparison

Yes but comparing the A7V333 to the A8V or K8V woulda been a bit more meaningful cuz via has a tendency to "legacize" their newer stuff
