Hot Hot Hot

Tried installing a soundcard in my DOS box this morning - I put in in the PCI slot, as per instructions, then switched the computer on, and it took absolutely ages about it. Concerned, I switched it off and had a look inside. Couldn't see anyting wrong, but there was a smell of hot electronics. Checked the CPU cooling, that was fine. Then I went to check that the memory was properly in its socket and burnt my fingers on it - I'm not exagerrating. I took it out immediatly with the aid of pliers, and consigned it to the bin.

Can anyone suggest why this is happening? I'm puzzled, as the memory is right next to the main case fan, whiich was clean and working at the time.

Are all your cards secure, firmly plugged into their slot? Ive had that happen sometimes where they appear to be plugged in, but are not actualy in all the way, and weird stuff happens. If thats not the case, I would double check your connections inside the computer, try restarting w/ out your sound card, see if the problem goes away, than try it agin w/ the sound card installed, maybe theres a incomapatibility issue with the card or your pci slot is bad, try another slot. Good luck.
