Hot Swapping?

I just wanted to know if it's safe to plug in/unplug a monitor if the computer is still on? (want to use my single monitor with two computers)

I have done it (it fell out accidentilly when I was testing a few old monitors) and nothing has happened but I don't know if it would qualify as "safe" I have also seen a monitor with only half on the pins in the port and it was fine (while it was like that all you could see was the green channel). I don't think it would hurt but if the monitor/video card is expensive it might be a bit of a risk.

You can freely unplug and replug monitors/lcds ... doing the same to video cards is something else
