greetings all,

i have an older hotmail account and CAN access my hotmail account via outlook express. it appears that all NEW accounts CANNOT do this. so, is there any simple program for the novice (my friend) to be able to retrieve hotmail e-mail?....Thanks!

I use outlook express with a newer hotmail account without any hangups... Not sure why yours would not be working.

i do not know what os you have (i use xp pro) but, i have talked to 3 people whom have the same access problem. here is a note i got from msn;

Could not connect to Hotmail as xxxxxxx at hotmail.com.

Hotmail no longer allows email access via Outlook Express for free email accounts.

Please visit http://www.hotmail.com/oe to learn more.

Account: 'Hotmail', Server: 'http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp', Protocol: HTTPMail, Server Response: 'Access to Hotmail via Outlook and Outlook Express now requires a subscription. Please sign up at http://join.msn.com/general/Email', Port: 0, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCCF6

...i see this thread went dead quickly!...

..at any rate, i have downloaded t-bird and have installed. as far as using it to retrieve a NEW hotmail account as someone claims it can do, i need to be sure as to what the smtp and pop servers should be and what to place into the boxes....

it says that my servers are a pop 3 but i am lost after that with this program...i have entered the correct user name and password but an getting an error.....please advise.

Hotmail email is an http server, here is the server setting required to access it...

I have been able to use OE to access my hotmail account. But I think they may be talking about any new hotmail accounts created in the last couple years.

...thanks for the reply..i have tried til i am blue in the face to get t-bird to work...i see no place to change or to select other then pop-3 at this time...the mozilla browser is firefox..i am beginning to thing that one of the posts in this thread was incorrect in that, i don't think anything can access a new homail account......ps, i have tried to cut and paste the server setting you have given me and it says for me to use a valid setting (or similar)...when i try t-bird, it says "sending of password did not succeed. mail server pop-server.cfl.rr.com responded: invalid user name or password....however, when i go to hotmail via my browser and use the same user name and password, i get access no problem!

OE automatically enters this server setting when I told it i had a hotmail account. You might only be able to access this through OE and no other emai program.

..NO, you do not understand;
1...i have an old e-mail account with hotmail that i CAN access with outlook express.

2..i have created another NEW hotmail address that i CANNOT access with outlook express and get a message as i have listed in a previous post.

3...i have attempted to access the NEW hotmail account and t-bird has miserably FAILED.

4...i know how to access hotmail with outlook express HOWEVER, as stated above, it will NOT work with the NEW hotmail accounts.

5...i see no way, using win XP HOME OR PRO which i have both, to utilize t-bird to access the NEW hotmail account.

6...this thread is about the configuration or the ability of t-bird to access the NEW HOTMAIL ACCOUNTS.

You can't access NEW hotmail accounts with any email program, only old hotmail accounts. I guess I interpreted your question wrong, sorry.
