hotwire/upload problems

I am trying to upload a video from my video camera to my computer using a hotwire. It works on other computers but this one when I click capture from video device in windows movie maker it says that it doesent detect a video device.

Reasons? Solutions?

Hey. My OS is windows the camera is a sony camera im not sure exactly what kind. and my computer was custom made by some people. not very good!
