I have an HP computer with an AMD Athlon 64 3800+ and would like to put a vid card in,, should I buy the Geforce 7900 GTX or will that be a waste in a smaller computer?? Is bigger always better? I was thinking the geforce 6800 might do me just fine. Lookin forward to comments and remarks.

6800's are good, they can still run newer games coming out,but the 7600GT is good and a 7800 is awesome and a 7900GTX is insanely good...theres also the x1900 and x1800 series cards that are pretty good too.

Don't get the 7900gtx, your powersupply will probably die trying to feed it :) What do you want to do with your computer? Major gaming? Normal stuff? Anything short of major gaming, a 7600gt or less would serve you well.

don't shoot for the biggest and baddest all the time... for one, if your not a hardcore gamer you won't use all the card's benefits... for two, you'll spend $XXX on your brandnew card and be proud until something comes out better...

save you cash and go cheap... and it wouldn't be a bad idea to get a better PSU like the others say...

I've been playing Quake 4 a bit , and I just would love to crank up the settings a bit, similar things happened with Half Life, and Far Cry I just couldn't play for it being so slow?

There are cards in between the 6800 and 7900GTX. Either a 7600GT or 7900GT might suit you well.
