How big is your hard drive that you keep your music collection on?

I'm considering Re-Ripping all my CD's as FLAC files over the weekend. How much space do you think it will take if I rip a 5GB collection of MP3s at 192-320KBPs?

Also, If I were to buy an Internal hard drive to store my music on, How many GBs or TBs would you suggest?

waste of time. I have 60 songs maybe and some old radio shows from the 30's, 40's and 50's. Hard drives are cheap enough. Or partition your hard drive. you have 500 gig. Partition 200.

for the record:
i have 2 500 gig. Partition 1 (primary) with 200 and the other is just a secondary then sync the files or what ever. I will not loose both drives at the same time.

I wouldn't go and say it is a waste. The main point is that when I need to convert it to work with a different device, I will always start with the highest quality copy.

Well between my collection and my parents/grandparents (for back ups) I have around 290GB of music. This is a lot of music from as far back as the 1940s to more recent. I also make back ups of ALL my games though this takes more space but I still fit all my games from Atari to PS2 within a 1TB HDD. The PS3/360 games are 3GB-5GB each and will require 1TB or so.

I have all my FLAC stuff on my second hard drive, and use dbpoweramp (best paid tool imo) to convert it to 320kbps MP3's for itunes/portable use.

Well my music folder is about 5GB, but it's only a few albums (most are 300-600mb depending on the number of tracks and length of the songs)

I have more music on my other drive that I only have MP3's of.

I think I'll just get a 500GB-1TB Drive then. But as for Internal Drives, what would you suggest?

Caviar Green: 750GB 1TB

Barracuda: 250GB 500GB 750GB 1TB

Spinpoint F3: 500GB 1TB

I am open to other suggestions, of course.
If it's any consolation, I own a Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ, and it's wicked fast. I've only had it for a few months, so I can't say much about reliability, but you'll have no speediness-worries if you get it. ;)

I don't need speed for a storage drive.

It will be for mainly music, and videos. I'm looking for something cool, quiet, reliable, and moderately priced.

Yeah, I know, but the price/perf is still really nice. :) It's also a relatively quiet drive, although I'm not sure how it matches up against the Caviar Green.

I'm pretty sure Caviar Green drives are meant for low power usage (thus, being cool.), and being storage drives.

i'm backing up my friends music currently i have 4430 songs ripped by mediamonkey gold @ 320 Kbs taking up 39.1 GB

I was thinking of getting that one as well. What about when you need to put a large file from the storage to boot? If it's a 5400rpm drive, won't it take a long time? Just wondered.

I think I might just go with a seagate barracuda then.

Are the WD AV-GP drives any good?
