this is what i've tried: right clicking ony my desktop, properties, screensaver, power, system stand by and adjust the minutes. lets say i put it to 5min. after 5min., my computer doesnt go to standby mode. so can anyone please help?
thanks

First thing you gotta do is look at Task Manager to see if there's a program running in the background. Look at the Performance tab to see CPU Usage, and the Processes tab to see what's running. If you see programs running then the pc won't go into standby.

my computer used to go to standby mode by itself before, but i think someone's changed the settings or something. can someone please tell me the exact setting for my computer to go on standby mode by itself? right now my settings are at: power schemes, home/office desk. system standby, after 1min. am i doing something wrong?

Aha! I have the same problem! My PC used to shut down the monitor after 10 minutes, and standby after 15 minutes, whenever I used anything but Nero. Now it won't do it at all unless NO programs are running! Very annoying to have the hard drives running for no reason all the time. I tried System Restore but that hasn't helped. I hope someone else has an idea here, because the only thing I can imagine that would help is to repair Windows, but I only have restore discs.

as stated before, close all unwanted programs one by one and test to see if it can go into standby after each program you close. When and IF you find the program thats stopping it then either disable or ununstall it.
