How did my G Drive Change Letters to N Drive?

Hopefully this question is in the right subforum as I wasn't sure where to post it. Anyway, I'd appreciate anyones explanation/advice/or speculation why all of a sudden my "G" drive which was my external DVD burner connected by USB to my HP Computer, XP SP2 operating system, has somehow switched letters to "N". Everything works fine as "N", there are no problems, but is this something I should be concerned about? Thanks for any info.

Hopefully this question is in the right subforum
would have been better in the hdd section but ohwell

have you installed any new hardware,
this includes removable hardware aswell like any more removable dvd durners.

but is this something I should be concerned about
but no theres nothing to fear

If you want to switch it back, right click on My Computer, then on Computer Management. In the left hand panel click on 'Disk Managment'.

This shows all your drives that are currently connected to your PC, and allows you to change what drive letters they are available at. Simply right click on your DVD burner, and 'Change Drive letters and paths'. Be careful in here, don't change your C: drive!

Keep in mind that if you remove your USB burner, and plug another USB storage device in (or even another hard drive), it might swallow the drive letter again. In that case, I set the things I want to always be to same to X: Y: and Z:, as I'll never have 26 storage devices on my computer at once.

If your not having problems, I'd think twice before fiddling though :P Just keep this in mind if you ever need to fix something like it again!
