how do fax/printers work?

Hey all i have a CANON pixma mp780 printer/scaner/fax/copier and i need to learn how to send out faxes?

if i hook it up to my phone line when i send fax out will it block the phone line so that noone else can call?

i only need to send fax out not recive one.

does it cost money to send one out?

any other information will be very apreciated
 
Yes, you hook it up to your phone line, and it will tie up the line while sending a fax, but it usually takes less then a minute anyways. And it doesnt cost any additional money to fax, but you would still get charged by your phone company as if you were making a call to whatever number it was that you faxed to.

Just make sure to turn the fax off once you send one, otherwise it may try to pick up all the phone calls that come in as well.

So you are saying for example i live in philly and i can fax anywhere in philly for free just like calling, but if i fax to cali it will count as a long distance 1 minute phone call?
 
some phone companies (SBC/AT&T) don't like you using long distance plans for data. They charged me so I just wanted to let you know so you don't see any unexpected charges on your bill.
